Nick Lancaster has been one of the most influential people in my journey since launching Ellipsis just a year ago. His ability to balance business, family, fitness, and mental health is something I truly admire, and something I strive to emulate as I continue to grow my business. From training for triathlons to building multiple successful ventures, Nick’s discipline and experience as an investor are both inspiring and deeply motivating.
Nick is the founder of LHG, a private equity firm based here in Tampa. We first met last year when I interviewed for one of his portfolio companies… but that meeting turned into something much bigger. Nick challenged me to take a leap of faith and start my own business, and looking back, I’m incredibly grateful he did.
Nick invests across a range of industries, from tech to hospitality. But one thing that stands out most about him is his belief in investing in people, not just products. I can personally attest to that philosophy.
In our interview, Nick shared valuable insights on several key topics, including “grit”… something he believes every successful founder must possess. The truth, as Nick puts it, is that not everyone is built to be an entrepreneur, and that’s okay. But those who are share one defining trait: the ability to push through when times get tough.
We also discussed the current state of venture capital and fundraising, what founders should look for when partnering with investors, and the true meaning of “smart money.”
If you’re a founder preparing for your first round of fundraising, or figuring out who the right investors are to partner with… this is a conversation you don’t want to miss.
